The Town of Ayr, nestled in the South Ayrshire region of Scotland, boasts a rich history that stretches back centuries. One of its most notable landmarks is the Auld Brig, an old stone bridge that spans the River Ayr. This bridge, with its origins dating back to the 13th century, is steeped in history and lore. It is said to have been the inspiration for the Scottish folk song "The Brig o' Doon", which tells a tale of witches and warlocks. The bridge's significance, however, extends beyond folklore; it is a wonderful example of medieval engineering, and its continued existence is a testament to the craftsmanship of the era.
