Did you know ?
Billericay, located in the county of Essex, England, is a town steeped in history and full of intriguing tales. One such story is connected to the Mayflower ship which transported the first English Puritans, known today as the Pilgrims, from England to the New World in 1620. It is believed that Christopher Martin, the ship's designated "Governour and Treasurer", hailed from Billericay. Martin, his wife, and his stepson were among the 102 passengers on the ship, sadly none of whom survived the first winter in the New World. This connection to one of the key events of early American history is commemorated in the town with a pub named 'The Mayflower' in their honour.
