East Kilbride, a town situated in Scotland, within the United Kingdom, is renowned as the country's first 'new town', designed and built in 1947 to help alleviate the housing shortage that followed the Second World War. What sets East Kilbride apart is its unique layout. Inspired by the Garden City movement, the town consists of a number of self-contained 'villages' or neighbourhoods, each with its own local amenities. This novel design was intended to foster a sense of community, creating a town that was both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The result is an urban landscape that has retained its charm even as the town has grown and modernised.
