The town of Helston, nestled in the heart of Cornwall, England, holds a unique and enchanting tradition known as the 'Furry' or 'Flora' Dance. This historic event, tracing back centuries, takes place every year on May 8th, and sees the entire town come to life with music, dance, and celebration. The townsfolk, adorned in their finest attire, dance through the streets, in and out of shops and houses, following a route that is said to drive out winter and welcome in spring. The origins of the Furry Dance are shrouded in mystery, with some believing it to be a pre-Christian festival to banish evil spirits, whilst others opine that it is a commemoration of a victorious battle during the Middle Ages. The dance has been immortalised in a song called 'The Floral Dance', which achieved international recognition when performed by the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band in 1977.
