Fun Fact !
Immingham is also home to a fascinating piece of religious history. The town's name, according to folklore, is derived from the name of a Saxon chief called 'Imma'. This same chief is believed to have been the founder of the original 'Immingham' - a settlement established in the 7th century. However, the town's most sacred relic is arguably the 'Immingham Pilgrim Memorial', which commemorates the departure of local pilgrims who sailed from Immingham Creek to Holland in 1608. This journey was part of a larger quest for religious freedom that eventually led them to America, and they became part of the group known as the 'Pilgrim Fathers'. The memorial was unveiled in 1924, and it serves as a poignant reminder of the town's deep-rooted connection to global religious history.
